Planet Cake Course – Miniature Garden Cupcakes

Posted on April 27th, 2010 in Cupcakes

I spent all Saturday and Sunday at Planet Cake this weekend.  I was enrolled in the Miniature Garden Cupcakes course.

There were 5 students in the course, which was really good, as we got a lot of one on one attention from the teacher.

On the Saturday morning, we chose our colours – this was a bit of a struggle because I am so indecisive!  I ended up choosing latte and blue with white accents for my cupcake stand.

We then coloured our fondant and covered our boards, spacers and styrofoam cake.

We spent Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning making our flowers.  We made roses, open roses, blossoms, arum lilies, hydrangeas and gerberas.

Before Lunch on Sunday, we learnt how to ganache our cupcakes.  After lunch, we cut out circles of fondant and covered our cupcakes.

Sunday afternoon it was time to start the fun part – the decorating!  I was a bit nervous with all of the piping, but I think it turned out pretty good!  There were 8 designs in total and I think my favourite is the latte coloured rose!

I was so happy with my colour combination – I always choose pinks and purples so this was very different for me!

Everyone’s cupcake stands were beautiful!  It was such a fun two days!  I learnt so much and I am planning which courses I will book into next (with my Husband’s permission of course!)

We ran out of time to finish decorating the cake, so I finished it at home on Monday – I am very pleased with it!
