Lawn Bowls Cake

Posted on March 31st, 2010 in Cakes

My Dad celebrated his 65th Birthday on 19 March.  For his birthday celebration, we had a family lunch at Peter Doyle at the Quay on the Sunday.

My Dad has recently taken up the hobby of lawn bowls so I just had to make him a lawn bowls cake!  I searched the internet for inspiration, and created a 3D lawn bowl and a jack.  Both cakes were made out of carrot cake and covered in white chocolate ganache and fondant.  I had ordered some letter cutters on the internet to make the happy birthday message, but they didn’t arrive on time so I had to try piping!  After two attempts, I had enough and just left it as it was… as you can see, it starts off ok, then gets a little squashed!  I definitely need a lot of practice!

We had a lovely seafood lunch in the sun overlooking Sydney Harbour, and I think everyone enjoyed the cake (even though I’m not very happy with it… I need to keep practicing!)
