Hula Girl Cake

Posted on February 3rd, 2011 in Cakes

Aloha!  On Tuesday it was my Mum’s birthday.  My Mum loves Hawaii.  She is going to Hawaii in two weeks!  I knew I had to make her a Hawaiian themed birthday cake, so I started my research a few weeks in advance.  When I saw this cake by Andrea’s SweetCakes I knew I had to base my cake on this.

I made the Hula Girl torso a week in advance to give her time to dry.  I also made the shells and decorated the board a week in advance.

A few days out, I baked the cake, a white chocolate mud cake.  I coated the cake with a milk chocolate ganache then I covered the cake with a thin layer of green fondant.  I used a clay gun to make the grass on her skirt.  For the sand, I used a mixute of caster sugar and brown sugar.

I was very happy with this cake!  My Mum loved it too!
