For the design of this cake, as I usually do pretty and feminine designs, I decided that I would create something bright and fun, a cake suited to a 16th, 21st or 30th Birthday celebration.

I learnt a lot in this course, including using an airbrush and hand painting.

I enjoyed my time at Planet Cake, and am hoping to complete Basics 109 in October!

I decided to make a Kit Kat Explosion Cake because I was short on time this week, and these cakes are relatively easy to make and still very effective.

I think these cakes are so great, they are perfect for boys and girls of all ages, and suit lots of different celebrations.

The cake was designed to match the engagement party invitations which featured a silhouette of a proposing couple.

The cake was a red velvet mud cake with white chocolate ganache.

I was asked to replicate the Bollywood Birthday Cake that I made for my own Birthday last year.  I was happy to make the cake again, as it is my favourite of the cakes I have designed so far!

I hope the birthday girl enjoyed her cake!

I decided to make her a gift box cake in pale turquoise and white.  I added a damask pattern to the sides of the cake and added some piped details which I painted silver.

I loved the elegance of this cake, and the birthday girl loved it too!

I made three different gifts this year, Christmas Cakes, Gingerbread Cookies and Rocky Road Christmas Trees.

The Christmas Cakes were fruit cakes decorated as little gift boxes in two different colour schemes.

I baked gingerbread cookies in Christmas ornament shapes and decorated them with white, maroon and purple royal icing.  These were inspired by Peggy Porschen’s gingerbread cookies in her book Cake Chic.

The rocky road Christmas trees were a last minute addition.  I haven’t made these for a few years, and received a few requests to make them this year.

I have spent weeks agonising over the design for this cake.  The cake is an unusual shape, and I found it quite difficult coming up with a design.  I actually had a different design when I started the cake, and changed my mind on the second day!

I decided to concentrate on learning to make some beautiful flowers including peonies, hydrangeas and filler flowers.  I coloured the fondant a light mint colour with a white scroll design on the sides of the cake.

I was pretty happy with this cake, and am looking forward to completing Basics 108 in April 2013!

We learnt a lot in this course, including making peonies, roses, pine cones and foliage.

I love the look of this cake, it would be perfect as a centrepiece for a Christmas celebration, or for a winter wedding.

The elephant was carved from styrofoam and covered with fondant and the cake was a marble mud cake with a dark chocolate ganache.

I was very happy with this cake and I hope Lucas and his family enjoyed it as well!
