Damask Stencil and Rose Cake

Posted on May 12th, 2011 in Cakes

I made this cake for a small family Mothers Day celebration on Sunday night.  I spent a couple of weeks planning this cake.  I haven’t made sugar flowers in ages, and I thought a simple, pretty cake with some roses would be perfect for Mothers Day.

I ordered my damask stencils and started making my roses.  My initial plan for the cake was to have a continuous damask pattern around the whole cake with a single large rose on top.  When it came time to put it all together, my large rose looked strange, so I assembled a few smaller ones together instead.  I couldn’t figure out how to get the damask pattern to repeat around the cake without ruining it, so I used a single small damask pattern instead.

Even with a few changes of plan, I was really happy with how this cake turned out!
